Birch Grove School for the Arts presents Elective Showcases
As an arts magnet elementary school, Birch Grove School for the Arts offers visual arts and drama classes as part of their daily specialist rotation. Additionally, the school offers elective art options that students in grades 1-5 add into their schedules. On Dec. 6, students and their teachers held elective showcases to show other students and parents what they worked on during the first round of art electives this school year.
Some of the art electives offered so far this year include: an Art Hub for Kids class based on the popular YouTube art account, stop motion video creation, yoga, a manicure and nail art studio and knitting.
“Electives offer students a chance to personalize their art experiences which are highlighted in an end of session showcase where students perform or display their final pieces for family and classmates,” said Birch Grove’s assistant principal, Lindsey Patterson. “Some of our student’s favorite choices have been tap dance, fiber arts like knitting or crocheting, rock painting and nail art.”
Now that elective showcases have wrapped up, Patterson said students now have the opportunity to choose new electives for their next session.
